Shin-Etsu Chemical has developed highly functional new coloring pigments for cosmetics applications that make use of its unique silicone surface treatment agent

This unique new product improves water repellency, dispersibility and wearability and has a smooth sensory feel on the skin

Tokyo, May 30, 2017 - Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tokyo, President: Yasuhiko Saitoh) has developed and begun the sale of new highly functional cosmetics pigments, the KTP-09 Series. The surface of these new pigments are treated with Shin-Etsu's unique silicone surface treatment agent, and using this new product for such applications as base makeup and point makeup cosmetics will contribute to the development of highly functional and very stable cosmetics that will result in significantly reducing the occurrence of color unevenness and the clumping of pigments.

Inorganic coloring pigments for cosmetics
Conventionally, many inorganic pigments that are used in cosmetics generally have a water-resistance property added, and a surface treatment agent is applied beforehand for the purpose of improving the dispersion performance and wearability in the cosmetics. For the surface treatment of the inorganic pigments, silicones that have high water repellency and a smooth sensory feel are often being used, and Shin-Etsu also has a line-up of various types of silicone surface treatment agents.

Characteristics of KTP-09 Series

Realization of a high degree of water repellency and dispersion performance

The new highly functional inorganic cosmetics pigments, the KTP-09 Series that Shin-Etsu Chemical has developed this time has an innovatively high degree of water repellency that has never before been achieved, and at the same time, these pigment powders exhibit superior dispersion performance with regard to various kinds of oils, due to treating the pigment surface with Shin-Etsu's unique silicone treatment agent.

Realization also of a reduction in the use of dispersing agents and design for low-viscosity formulations

Particularly in emulsion preparation, this unique new product series will prevent a deterioration in stability from the clumping of pigments, and will achieve improvements with regard to wearability on the skin. In addition, this new product is easily applicable to formulations that have various oils mixed in, such as silicone fluid, hydrocarbon oils and ultraviolet light absorbers, and will also be able to realize a reduction in the amount used of dispersing agents and design for low-viscosity formulations.

To be exhibited at The 8th Cosmetic Ingredients & Technology Exhibition Japan

The KTP-09 Series is scheduled to be exhibited at the Shin-Etsu Chemical booth at The 8th Cosmetic Ingredients & Technology Exhibition Japan (CITE Japan 2017). This exhibition is being organized by the Federation of Japanese Cosmetic Ingredients Associations and is being held in Yokohama for three days from May 31 to June 2, 2017.

Shin-Etsu Chemical has a line-up of silicone powder products that possess characteristics that provide high functionality and offer a uniquely smooth and silky skin feel in applications for various cosmetic products. Going forward, we will carry out development of products that will meet the needs of the increasingly diversifying cosmetics market.
