Shin-Etsu Silicone Selection Guide for Cosmetics

Color Pigments

The KTP-09 series is surface treated pigments featuring hydrophobic treatment applied to the surface of the color pigments.
It is a color pigment whose surface has been treated with a processing agent containing branched silicone chains and alkyl chains, combining high hydrophobicity with excellent dispersibility in a wide range of silicone fluids.

Molecular Structure Model of KTP-09 Series Surface Treatment Agent

It possesses branched silicone chains and alkyl chains, and features a triethoxysilyl group as its reactive group.
The KTP-09 series is treated with a hydrophobic agent having the structure shown above, providing excellent dispersibility in both silicone fluids and fatty substances.
Its texture combines the smooth feel characteristic of silicone with the skin-friendly properties derived from its alkyl chains. Furthermore, its high hydrophobicity, achieved through an optimal treatment method, enhances formulation stability by suppressing agglomeration and color fading.
Grade Ingredients color
KTP-09R Silicone-alkyl treated iron oxide Red
KTP-09Y Silicone-alkyl treated yellow iron oxide Yellow
KTP-09B Silicone-alkyl treated black iron oxide Black
KTP-09W Silicone-alkyl treated titanium dioxide White

KTP-09 Series Hydrophobic -Silicone Fluids/Underwater Condition Observation-

KF-995 (cyclopentasiloxane): Purified water: Color pigments = 10g: 10g: 0.05g
After dispersing the color pigments in KF-995, add purified water, shake, and observe the state after settling.
While the KTP-09 series maintains a state where it is dispersed solely in silicone fluids, in cases of poor processing, the hydrophilic portion remaining on the color pigments’ surfaces adsorbs water, creating a state where water appears to be incorporated into the silicone fluids.
