Product Information

X-88-475 is a silane coupling agent with an amino acid ester structure.
When added as a denaturant to urethane adhesives, it is expected to improve adhesion and water resistance to glass and steel plates, etc. X-88-475 is soluble in water and forms a stable aqueous solution. While aqueous solutions of general amino silane compounds are basic at pH 10-12, X-88-475 is neutral at pH 7-8, making it possible to use in applications where basicity is to be avoided.
In addition, treatment of glass fibers with this aqueous solution is expected to improve adhesion to epoxy resins and other materials.

Improved Adhesion between Glass and Epoxy Resin

The interfacial shear strength of glass fiber and epoxy resin treated with X-88-475 (1 wt%) aqueous solution was evaluated using a composite interfacial property evaluation device (HM410, manufactured by Toei Sangyo Co., Ltd. The results showed that the coupling performance was better than that of other secondary amino silane compounds.

Evaluation Result: Interfacial Adhesion Test of Silane-Treated Glass/Epoxy Resin

Improved Adhesion and Water Resistance of Urethane Adhesives

We mixed 0.2 wt% of X-88-475 as a terminal modifier in a urethane adhesive and measured the interfacial shear bond strength using soda glass as the adherend. The results showed that, compared to the non-added specimens, the adhesion was improved both immediately after specimen preparation and after 3 days of immersion in 60°C hot water, indicating that the addition of X-88-475 improves adhesion and water resistance.

Stable Aqueous Solutions can be Prepared

X-88-475 is soluble in water at room temperature and can be used to prepare stable aqueous solutions; aqueous solutions of KBM-903 and KBM-603 are basic at pH 11.2 and pH 10.7, respectively, while aqueous solutions of X-88-475 are neutral at pH 7.3, allowing use in applications where basicity is to be avoided. X-88-475 can be used in applications where basicity is to be avoided. In addition, aqueous solutions of X-88-475 do not become cloudy or gelatinous even when the pH becomes acidic or basic due to additives.
