Report on the restart of the operation at the Asia Silicones Monomer Plant

We apologize to all those concerned for any trouble and anxieties caused by the fire that occurred on October 19th at the plant of Asia Silicones Monomer Ltd. ("ASM"), a subsidiary of Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. that is located in Rayong, Thailand.

Upon obtaining permission from the supervising authorities and the understanding of local residents, on October 30th, ASM restarted the operation of the process that had been stopped.

The Shin-Etsu Group takes the occurrence of this fire at the ASM seriously and is determined to make every effort to prevent any such recurrence. At the same time, we will carry out the operations placing the utmost priority on safety at all of the Group's plants.
