Shin-Etsu Silicone Selection Guide for Cosmetics

Texture Enhancers

Silicone gels and Silicone Powder deliver a uniquely smooth, silky feel, a soft film sensation, and a lightweight finish without stickiness.
Additionally, their three-dimensional cross-linked structure provides a light-diffusing effect (soft-focus benefit).

Silicone Gels

Silicone Gels (KSG Series) is a silicone three-dimensional crosslinked compound swollen in silicone fluids, characterized by its unique silky feel and soft film sensation.
The crosslinked material has a molecular structure where silicone chains are intertwined. This includes the Standard Type, composed solely of silicone, and the alkyl branched type with alkyl chains unrelated to crosslinking, and the silicone / alkyl branched type. Each is swollen with a compatible silicone fluids.
They can be used in W/O, O/W, or non-aqueous systems, imparting structural viscosity to the oil phase and enhancing formulation stability. The texture characteristics vary widely depending on the crosslinker structure and silicone fluids, allowing selection based on the intended purpose.

Silicone Powder

  • Silicone Powder Water-Suspensions is a product where rubber powder with a soft, silky feel is dispersed in water at a high concentration. It easily imparts the excellent feel and functionality of silicone rubber powder to O/W systems and water-based formulations.
  • Silicone Resin Powder is a spherical powder with a smooth, powdery texture. It has low oil absorption and excellent dispersibility. Our lineup includes standard silicone resin powder and powder containing phenyl groups.
  • Hybrid Silicone Powder (KSP Series) is a powder where the surface of spherical Silicone Rubber Powder is coated with silicone resin. It combines the softness of silicone rubber with the smooth, light feel and high dispersibility of silicone resin, providing a premium user experience.
It also imparts a high soft-focus benefit, blurring skin imperfections like wrinkles and pores for a natural finish. Products with varying oil-absorbing properties are available, differing based on the modifying group of the rubber portion.
