Shin-Etsu Silicone Selection Guide

Silicone Oligomers

Silicone oligomers are relatively low molecular weight silicone resins. Because of their structural characteristics, they are very unique products that can function as a main component, as a modifier for organic resins, and as a coating surface modifier.

Silicone oligomers are products whose reactive functional group is an alkoxysilyl group (Si-OR) and whose molecular weight is small. Because of the alkoxysilyl groups, when used in combination with a curing catalyst, they form a cured film at room temperature due to moisture in the air. There are also products that can be heat cured. Because of their low
molecular weight, they are easily compatible with other organic resins and are used as modifiers to improve weather resistance and adhesion. Many products contain 100% silicone active ingredients and do not contain organic solvents. There are also products whose reactive functional groups are alicyclic epoxy groups and acrylic groups.
