Is there any way to check if the silane treatment has been applied?
A simple way to evaluate hydrophobically treated fillers is to use the index of hydrophobicity (methanol wettability).
Confirming the results of hydrophobization treatment
- Place 0.5g of the sample in a 500mL triangular flask.
- Add 50mL of ion exchange water to ① and stir with stirrer.
- With stirring, add a drop of methanol from a burette, and read the drop volume when the entire amount of the sample is suspended in the ion-exchange water.
- Determine the degree of hydrophobicity by the following equation.
For detailed analysis, 29Si solid-state NMR is also useful.
